The Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences would like to invite you to the second webinar in the series covering topics related to COVID-19.
The faculty will share their experiences and discuss the different challenges the healthcare sector is facing as it manages the COVID-19 pandemic.
This webinar will present Prof. Matteo Bassetti, Head of the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the San Martino-IST University Hospital in Genoa, Full Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Genoa, and president of the Italian Society of Anti-infective Therapy. He will speak on the topic Clinical, diagnostic and antiviral/anti-inflammatory management of COVID-19
Our second speaker, Prof. Jean-Louis Vincent, will speak on the topic Therapeutic options for COVID19.
He is a Professor of Intensive Care at the University of Brussels, and the Department of Intensive Care at the Erasme University Hospital -Brussels. He is Past-President of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM), the Belgian Society of Intensive Care Medicine (SIZ), the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), the European Shock Society (ESS), and the International Sepsis Forum (ISF). He is also the Editor-in-Chief of "Critical Care", "Current Opinion in Critical Care", and "ICU Management".
The webinar will be moderated by Dr. Dirar Abdallah, Consultant in Internal Medicine, and an Intensivist, as well as chair of Medicine and chair of the Antibiotics Stewardship Program (ASP) at Prime Hospital-Dubai. He is also a member of the UAE National ASP committee, the European Study Group for Antibiotic Policies (ESGAP), and the British Society of the Anti-Microbial Chemotherapy (BSAC)

Prof. Vincent is Professor of Intensive Care at University of Brussels, and an intensivist in the Department of Intensive Care at the Erasme University Hospital in Brussels. He is Past- President of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM) and a Past-President of the Belgian Society of Intensive Care Medicine (SIZ), the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), the European Shock Society (ESS), and the International Sepsis Forum (ISF).
He is member of the Royal Medical Academy of Belgium. Dr Vincent has signed more than 850 original articles, some 400 book chapters and review articles, 930 original abstracts, and has edited 99 books. He is co-editor of the Textbook of Critical Care (Elsevier Saunders) and the “Encyclopaedia of Intensive Care Medicine” (Springer). He is the Editor-in-Chief of "Critical Care", "Current Opinion in Critical Care", and "ICU Management" and member of the editorial boards of about 30 other journals. He received several awards: the Distinguished Investigator Award of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the College Medalist Award of the American College of Chest Physicians; he was the Recipient of the "Society Medal” (lifetime award) of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and has received the prestigious Belgian scientific award of the FRS-FNRS (Prix Scientifique Joseph Maisin-Sciences biomédicales cliniques). His name appears about 1000 times in Pubmed, and has been cited more than 100,000 times, with an H-index above 130.

Matteo Bassetti is Head of the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the San Martino-IST University Hospital in Genoa and Full Professor of Infectious Diseases of the University of Genoa, Italy. Dr Bassetti studied at the University of Genoa School of Medicine and continued his medical education at the Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, USA with an Infectious Diseases fellowship.
Dr Bassetti is chair of the Critically Ill Study Group of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID). Dr Bassetti is also co-chair of the Intra-abdominal Infections Study Group of the International Society of Chemotherapy (ISC). He is the president of the Italian Society of Anti-infective Therapy (SITA) and member of executive committee for the battle against antimicrobial resistance of the Italian Minister of Health (PNCAR). He is member-elected (2018-2022) of International Council of the Immunocompromised Host Society (ICHS). From 2019 he is member of the council of International Sepsis Forum (ISF). He serves on the editorial board of several prestigious international journals. Author or co-author of 600 papers (H index 60; 12500 citations) published in International peer-review journals and several chapter’s book on antibiotic therapy, fungal infections, antimicrobial resistances, infections in immunocompromised patients and critically ill patients.

Dr. Dirar Abdallah is a Consultant Internal Medicine, Intensivist, chair of Medicine and chair of the Antibiotics Stewardship Program (ASP) at Prime Hospital-Dubai. He is also a member of the UAE National Antibiotics Stewardship Program (ASP) committee, the European Study Group for Antibiotic Policies (ESGAP), and the British Society of the Anti-Microbial Chemotherapy (BSAC). He served as the medical director of Prime Hospital and the Chair of ICU Department.
Dr. Dirar has published several publications in international journals, presented many CME activities as well as speaking in national and international conferences, and has won several awards. His area of interest is ASP in Hospitals, Surgical Antibiotic Prophylaxis (SAP) and Clinical Decision Support System CDSS.
